A Nokia division that Microsoft did not acquire with the mobile phone division has released a pre-beta homescreen UI app for Android called Z Launcher.
The launcher deliberately tells us consumers that Nokia is still in the competition environment of mobile phone industry after most of it is acquired by Microsoft; It was not just the hardware that they needed to be in the space.
Nokia Z Launcher supports Android Jellybean 4.1 and higher OS. It’s not optimised for tablet devices. The app is a pre-beta release and it’s only available to download through the official website as .apk file.
Nokia Z Launcher separates differently in launcher space of Android. It’s smart, lists your routine tasks on the homescreen according to time, location, communication history and browsing events. That said it would need time to make itself better on a day-to-day basis – sounds pretty much like a digital personal assistant. Hence, Z Launcher is different.
Z Launcher also features Scribble functionality to open or list down apps and contacts by scribbling a letter on the homescreen similar to some of the launcher apps available on the Play Store.
